Welcome back to the Dust Bowl. It’s the Grapes of Wrath out there. Slim pickin’ for wins in my bracket. But to be fair–you must know by now. This is a painfully familiar theme! It is brutal and unfair, but that’s so much of life. If you followed my football predictions, I believe I only won 11 games all year… The movie Casino was not based on my skills…
Not only did I not win the national prize for an undefeated bracket, I was not even able to win the infinitely smaller family pool. Crashed and burned on day one and it only got worse from there…
On the bright side–my sisters’ beloved Arizona Wildcats and my adorable godson and nephew Charlie’s Arkansas Razorbacks are set for an epic battle tonight. It would not be right of me to disclose my allegiances, but I will only say that my sisters are very nice to me…Here is some stuff I like and hope you like too…

I'M THE COOLER...
I’m the one they send in when the gamblers are doing too well. I can chill a Heatmeiser faster than a woolly mammoth can say “Ice Age”. I have the gift…for not succeeding at games of chance. Thank my lucky stars it was the one vice I did NOT have…(other than while working overnight at a gas station in college, I helped a fella out with his sports book… you can see how that paid off for me…).
I do love going to Vegas, the lovely Jessica Winther is from Vegas, and we do have a good time when we go (usually when she has a headlining gig somewhere and I get dragged along to take pictures… 😄😄😄). My favorite thing, though, is the insane mob history, a good part of it tied back to our very own Kansas City! Our mob boss Nick Civella may or may not have been instrumental in organizing the skim 🤔🤔🤔.

THE SHOW I AM WATCHING...
This movie is definitely not up there with Almost Famous, but as a lighter-weight, coming-of-age story, it will do in a pinch. Orlando Bloom has never been more bearable as a hotshot corporate exec who makes one of the biggest blunders in business history at the same time his dad dies. Kirsten Dunst is plucky flight attendant Claire who helps him navigate his grief.
Is it a little annoying? Yep. Sure is. Did it age well? Not really. But if you are looking for a shameless heartstring plucker that just makes you feel good about life and how to live it, all set to an absolutely monstrous soundtrack just designed for an epic road trip, this is your movie! You will not thank me later, but you may surprisingly enjoy it.
ELYX TRAVEL
I like to brag on my family and friends in this gossip rag a lot, and this definitely fits that bill, but so what???–life should be more about celebrating the wins than wallowing in the losses. This one is a huge win for my little brother Mark. He and his business partner Saurabh have just launched an insane AI-powered travel tool that solves most, if not all, of the challenges of meaningful travel. Paul Blomeyer has become a good buddy of mine over the last year, and his particular brand of comedy is absolutely one of my favorites.
